Ingredients
  • 4 skinless chicken breast, cut into ½ inch cubes
  • salt and McCormick ground white pepper - gluten free
  • 2 tablespoons Clabber Girl Cornstarch - gluten free
  • 2 tablespoons peanut oil
  • 6 dried red chilies
  • 3 garlic cloves, smashed
  • 2 tablespoons dry sherry
  • 8 green onions, chopped into 1 inch length
  • FOR THE SAUCE:
  • 2 tablespoons Yeo's Black Bean Sauce - Gluten Free
  • 3 tablespoons San J Tamari Soy Sauce - gluten free
  • 2 tablespoons Heinz Ketchup - gluten free
  • 2 tablespoons light brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Lee Kum Kee Sriracha Chili Sauce - gluten free
Instructions
  1. Place the chicken in a large bowl. Season with salt and white ground pepper. Add the cornstarch and mix well to coat.
  2. In another bowl, mix all the ingredients for the sauce.
  3. Heat the wok over high heat until it starts to smoke. Add the peanut oil. Add the garlic and sauté until fragrant then add the chilies and fry for few seconds. Add the chicken and stir-fry for few minutes or until the chicken turns opaque. Add the sherry, stir for few seconds then add the sauce.
  4. Cook the chicken for 2 more minutes or until the sauce thickened. Add the green onions and cook for another minute.
  5. Serve

  2. There is a Chinese place near my office that makes a General Tso’s in a very similar way to this. I can tell that ketchup and black bean sauce provide the base. This was very, VERY close to my favorite version of the dish, but the ratios might be a little different (I think it needs to be sweeter.)

    Having said that, I enjoyed this version as well!
